Under the banner of making Christchurch a “sustainable and resilient” city, Heathcote councillor, Sara Templeton, has announced her bid for the 2025 mayoralty.
This news came as the incumbent Phil Mauger gave a faltering interview to TVNZ’s Jack Tame.
An at-times nervous Mauger struggled to explain to Tame why he was unable to keep his promise of delivering a 3 to 4 percent rates rise, and how he did not foresee that.
Mauger also did not respond, when asked why, in light of this, he should be trusted to manage the city’s finances.
Whether Mauger will stand against Templeton remains to be seen, with Mauger telling Tame he would consider the option of standing for a second term over the Christmas break.
