A local has provided The NZR with the footage, which shows a large group blocking the intersection of Piko Crescent and Paeroa Street at about 9 or 10pm that night.

“The New Zealand Police notified the University of Canterbury (UC) about off-campus student activity on the evening of Wednesday, 19 February.

Our understanding is that the property in question was not tenanted by UC students.

UC encourages responsible behaviour and sets clear expectations for students, as outlined in its Student Code of Conduct. These expectations are introduced at enrolment, with an understanding students uphold the University’s regulations and policies. UC takes any potential breaches of the Code seriously.”
