The cost of the 19 March mosque attacks has surpassed $42 million, government figures show.

This figure includes a portion of the costs related to the gunman’s appeal to the Court of Appeal relating his conviction and sentence.

The costings do not include Crown and Ministry of Justice staffing costs and other associated costs. The release of the Police’s costings is overdue.

On 5 March, the Ministry of Justice gave a mini breakdown of the full costs of the coronial inquest.
