Four days before Krystal arrived in Christchurch, she receives a Facebook message from Cindy.
Nigel with his mother Debbie Bom.
Up until then, Cindy had told Krystal and mother Debbie she had been away when son Nigel Bom had died. She told Debbie she had gone to the West Coast.
A complication arose with Cindy’s alibi that Krystal couldn’t put to one side.
Nigel’s wallet had been returned with money inside. This raised eyebrows as on the night that Nigel was seen, he had told his family he was out of his last $20.
Cindy knew about the money and said it was from her for cigarettes.
This made a nonsense of her alibi. How could she be away for two weeks and yet know what was in his wallet?
Only Cindy could answer this question.
According to Krystal, Cindy claimed another woman called Kelly* “told me the money he had in his wallet was from her for smokes.”
She also claimed that Kelly “saw him last.”
But Cindy hadn’t finished. Her alibi continued to change shape as their messages flew back and forth.
Cindy had placed Kelly in the taxi with Nigel, on the last night he was seen alive.
After arriving in the country on 19 April, Krystal made a beeline for Kelly to find out whether Cindy’s story was true.
“Kelly said no she hadn’t actually seen Nigel around the time of his death,” says Krystal.
The vicinity of where Nigel Bom was dropped by taxi.
“I did go back to Cindy by message. She wrote to me along the lines, it wasn’t Kelly, it was Sarah*.” Sarah had been the girlfriend of a member of the Bom family.
