"Sleepy" Driver Ploughs Into Riccarton Dairy
Shop attendant Daniel retells the story of a harrowing car crash that sounded like an earthquake.
When a car ploughed into the Peverel Street dairy, such was the ferocity of the impact, Daniel Ocean thought it was an earthquake.
Daniel points to the shop, where a car crashed into the storage room on or about Tuesday, 7 May, this year.
At around four in the afternoon, Daniel was looking after his family and “the family’s dairy shop”.

“It [was] just really a large sound. It’s difficult to describe. It’s just, it’s like the somethings crash and the sound, and the shaking, and I thought it was an earthquake.”
Daniel looked at the camera and saw “there’s a car in the store”.
Owner Roy Du said the shop is dealing with problems “daily”, and photos have been added to the window to the right of the front door to put off alleged culprits from returning.

Next, Daniel checked on the three male passengers. He couldn’t tell their condition, because there was “a lot of smoke”. “They open the door and get out…”.
Daniel called for the Police. They arrived about 5 minutes later.
