Health NZ's ADHD Data Blackhole Revealed

The New Zealand Reporter has revealed a gaping Health NZ ADHD data hole. The hole could undermine efforts to reduce reported long wait times and medical costs for ADHD sufferers.

Health NZ has admitted to a significant data gap regarding the prescribing of vital medication by paediatricians and psychiatrists to ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) sufferers.

This comes as significant setback to Greens’ MP Zoe Swarbrick’s push to reform the way in which ADHD is prescribed and on the back of two recent Pharmac initiated changes (see the video and below) that do not deal with the biggest barrier ADHD sufferers face in seeking help.

The New Zealand Reporter’s mission is to be the first to find and publish the best news in the country. The NZR is a member of the NZ Media Council and subject to its complaints procedure. Complaints about stories must first be directed in writing to the editor (provide link) within a month of the article being published. If you are not satisfied with the editor’s response, you can complain to the council. You will need to attach a copy of the article complained about and any correspondence you have had with the editor.
