Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee to Hear on the Diamond Harbour Crush Injuries Saga; Worksafe Sides With Hunter Internal Investigation; Councillors not shown investigation report.
Today the council confirmed the Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee will hear on the Diamond Harbour crush injuries saga on 8 December. This news comes as the council disclosed it had not given the final investigation report to the city councillors.

During a Waitangi Day weekend this year, several people, including an 8-year-old, suffered crush injuries while using a Council pontoon close to the Diamond Harbour jetty. The pontoon construction site was controlled by council contractor Hunter Civil.

A council investigation report and Hunter’s draft report both concluded the crush injuries could have been anticipated. The final Hunter report that was provided to WorkSafe concluded it could not have been predicted.
On Friday, WorkSafe, the country’s health and safety watchdog, wrote that it had agreed with Hunter Civil’s internal findings.
