Chief Executive Mary Richardson has roundly defended the council’s efforts to improve safety in and around the Riccarton Bus Exchange.

This response has come as local business owners spoke of concern for the safety of workers, customers and teenage girls despite security having been beefed-up in Riccarton.

The NZR wrote to Mayor Phil Mauger regarding several safety concerns regarding downtown Riccarton. He has yet to respond.

The NZR will seek a response from him at Mauger next mayoral forum.

About two days later, Richardson responded -

Thank you for your email. I’ve asked the relevant teams to provide comment on the matters you’ve raised and can provide the following advice:
