Speaking before the Independent Hearings Panel earlier this year, a witness told panelists St. James’ land could be valued between $8.5 to $9.1 million if there was no “hindrance”.

St. James Church

“As the owners of this building [St. James Church], we’re not going to invest in its restoration, and we would like to sell it,” said Anglican Bishop of Canterbury, Peter Carrell to The NZR in its May podcast (above).

The church could be sold, but as it is subject to a heritage protection order, the church has had one offer that was described by a witness as “low ball”.
