Aaron Keown and 7 Councillors Speak Out About Hospital Carparking and Potential Fix; Mauger, Cotter and 7 Councillors Remain Silent
See whether the councillors have insurance & have gone private, how much they pay in parking fees, where they ordinarily park when going to the central hospital, and how to resolve the parking impasse
The hot potato of hospital carparking is still a live issue for former CDHB Board member and campaigner Aaron Keown.
He and seven other councillors have spoken out about the ongoing hospital carparking fiasco that the city finds itself in (their responses are included in this article). The mayor deputy mayor and 7 other councillors have not responded to questions.
Speaking on the phone to The Wigram, Keown, a longstanding advocate for resolving the issue, has said he has tried time and again to form a working group within council and pass a motion on it but feels that the local body has washed its hands of the issue.
Respondents to The Wigram have provided insight into a range of issues including whether they have private health insurance, whether they have used the private system, how much they pay in parking fees, where they ordinarily park when going to the central hospital, and how to resolve the parking impasse.

No Response
But despite claiming at last week’s cycle lane vote that he has a quick fix to the hospital carparking debacle, Mayor Phil Mauger has not provided The Wigram with any detail of his “quick fix” or a response to any other questions.
Mayor Mauger was contacted on 20 May. His media manager Jocelyn Ritchie responded. The Wigram followed up on 22 May and 6 June with Ms. Ritchie. Mauger hasn’t responded.
Mauger is not the only elected official who has remained tight-lipped. Seven other councillors and the deputy mayor have also remained silent on this hot topic.
