The Ministry of Education has confirmed that close to a dozen people made formal complaints regarding Christchurch Boys’ High School, appearing to contradict a NZR source’s claim that at least 55 complaints had been made to the government body.
“The source said that the MOE had been a disappointment. Following a period of silence, he said that in March 2022, an MOE employee told him it would not be seeking to install a commissioner in the school. At some stage, a then CBHS staffer told all the teachers to lodge complaints with WorkSafe. The first complaints reached WorkSafe in June 2022. He believed 4 of the MOE complainants took this path.”
In recent years, the media’s coverage of WorkSafe’s CBHS investigation (commenced in June 2022) has obscured the MOE’s prior involvement.
The MOE’s South Island Leader Nancy Bell has confirmed that it received complaints “Between 2019 and mid-2022…”.
